Do you ever feel like an eight-year-old is running your life?
I’m referring to how you feel sometimes when someone or something triggers you, leaving you drained and feeling out of control? When stressful situations happen in life, our natural tendency is to revert to habits and patterns that dis-empower us, but that feel comfortable to us at the same time. When we react in anger and resentment, it wreaks havoc on the cells of our body, because they go into “fight or flight” mode.
Often times the body remains in this heightened state of tension and chaos, flooding the body with cortisol and toxic emotions that create dis-ease in the body. What can you do about this? Well, you must learn to change your mindset, your thinking. It sounds easy, but it’s not. Most people are not willing to look at their belief systems (B.S.) because they’re like comfortable-fitting shoes. Even though they may be out-dated and served their purpose, the shoes (like beliefs) are hard to throw away.
Most people will defend their beliefs to the death, because they have so much “proof” that they are right about them. Let’s consider looking at this belief around money: “I have to work really really hard to make a living and save money, and then something will happen, such as an unexpected bill or repair, that will wipe out my savings and security.”
Is this belief really true? You may argue that absolutely it is true. Can you be sure it’s true beyond any doubt in every situation? Probably not. Either way, you’ve most likely accumulated years of evidence that this is the truth.
But consider this. As a young child, your beliefs are primarily formed by the age of eight, based on things that happened to you, that you don’t even remember. Perhaps you saw your dad work very hard, not spend much time with you, your family constantly struggling with finances, living from paycheck to paycheck.
So you naturally concluded, as a child, either consciously or subconsciously, the above belief that making a living is difficult. When this occurred, you grew into an adult who believed the same thing. Your beliefs are thoughts that are thought a lot, and they set up a reaction that goes like this.
You think a thought, and it creates a subsequent emotion. Emotions are merely energy in motion that have a vibration or frequency which attract to it similar circumstances. So if you’re going around feeling that making a living is difficult, you will experience situations that “prove” your thoughts are true.
This is why you must first change your thinking, which will change your emotions, which will change your actions/behaviors, which will change your life. BUT…it has to start by looking at your unexamined belief systems.
So decide today that you are going to allow some quiet time alone to go within, in which you begin to ask yourself some questions. Ask your Higher Wise Self for guidance with this. Your ego may not know the answers, but your Wise Self does, I assure you.
1) What belief is running my life that keeps me stuck in fear and lack and limitation?
2) How am I betraying myself with my actions and not living my life congruently?
3) What is one thing I’m willing to do today to change my mind about this belief?
